CfM2: Leaving Mars

A crew departs the surface of Mars while a replacement crew lands. With proper mission phasing, a Mars base can be occupied continuously. A two-stage ascent rocket must be used due to the lower performance of the carbon monoxide fuel which was produced from the local Martian atmosphere. Designed during a Mission design workshop during the "Case for Mars 2" conference in Boulder, Colorado, USA, July 1984.
